In 1996 within a project of the US National Library of Medicine 1878 photographic cross-sectional images of a corpse were generated (Visible Human Project).

  d In 2001 the interactive 3D-Atlas VOXEL-MAN/Inner Organs was developed from the Visible Human data. It allows the arbitrary choice view point, cutting, dissection and interrogation of the anatomy including its radiological appearance. The achieved quality of graphic rendering is still (2016) unsurpassed. The interactive scenes on the left are taken from the stripped down version VOXEL-MAN 3D-Navigator/Inner organs.
